I think in the mundane sense there are many truths, and everyone has their own truth based on the sum of experiences of their life. Ultimately the truth is one of course, but perhaps it's just too mysterious, inconceivable, or possibly just too difficult to comprehend by an ordinary mind. To know the higher truth one has to transcend the ordinary mind and get enlightened.
